Kaitlyn Hammesfahr,
Counseling Intern

Kaitlyn received her Bachelor’s in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. There she received the Bernard Locke award for academic excellence in Psychology and graduated summa cum laude. Afterwards, Kaitlyn went on to pursue a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Monmouth University in Long Branch, New Jersey, specializing in Addiction Studies.  She is expected to graduate with her Masters in December of 2016 and will receive her LPC and LCADC thereafter.

She has served as both a research assistant and intern in several rehabilitative settings and is currently pursuing training and practices as a case manager and counseling intern for such clients with a history of substance abuse, as well as other mental health issues and dual diagnoses.  She has experience in both group and individual counseling, as well as teaching and lecturing. Kaitlyn utilizes different techniques from such practices as dialectical and cognitive behavior therapy, as well as rational-emotive, reality, and existential theory. Utilizing meditative and mindfulness practices, she aims to support and assist people through different life transitions.

Strengths include employing unconditional positive regard, promoting acceptance while encouraging change and growth, developing trust to build a therapeutic alliance, and nurturing innate qualities to empower the individual, foster hope, and instill a renewed sense of responsibility and control.
